Functional Medicine

After serving two tours in Iraq with the US Army, Dr. Damon chose to explore civilian life. However, at the time, he did not realize what he was giving up – a tribe that he could count on, especially when the situation was dire. He realized that in our modern world, we do not typically have those deep connections. He believes that this is contributing to our current healthcare crisis. Inspired by the belief that maintaining a strong tribe is essential for optimizing health, he decided to integrate a community concept into his functional medicine model. Having overcome numerous chronic health conditions through natural means, he wants to help others heal & revitalize their lives as well.

Dr. Damon has obtained a doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine, MS in Exercise and Nutrition Science, BS in Exercise Science, & is currently pursuing a diploma for the American Board of Chiropractic Internists. He grew up in the city of Philadelphia, where as a youth, he endured through several chronic afflictions including gut issues, ear infections, sinusitis, insomnia & social anxiety.  It was not until after leaving the military that he discovered the true healing powers of nature and the human body.

While working as a personal trainer, Dr. Damon became certified in Level 1 & 2 of the Functional Movement Systems which is designed to identify asymmetries & compensations in movement patterns. Utilizing his knowledge of biomechanics, functional movement, chiropractic, nutrition, & functional medicine, Dr. Damon will help you to restore your vitality.

His personal life consists of time outdoors with his best friend Scooby, practicing movement, writing poetry, foraging, reading, breathwork, hiking, & fine-tuning his cooking skills.  He is an avid reader of the Stoics and ancient healing practices.

Chiropractor

Dr. Keegan Mente moved to St. Petersburg in April 2023 when he fell in love with the area after visiting once. Where he enjoys the role of local healthcare provider and does the work he finds so fulfilling.

“The thing I like best about being in the chiropractic field is seeing people get their lives back,” he says. “It’s rewarding to hear from patients about the activities they are able to do that they couldn’t do before.”

Dr. Mente was raised in a small town of 3,000 in eastern Iowa close to where chiropractic was founded. He started a practice out of school in Bend, Oregon. He has also treated patients in Iowa City and Fort Lauderdale.

In his spare time, Dr. Mente enjoys the company of his doberman pinscher, Callie and spending time outdoors playing sports, working out and exploring new places.

He earned his doctorate from the prestigious Palmer College of Chiropractic after having earned a bachelor’s degree in human performance and fitness from another Davenport, Iowa, college: St. Ambrose University.

“I was introduced to chiropractic in high school,” Dr. Mente says. “I was constantly injured in sports but chiropractic helped me get back to optimum performance much better and faster than traditional medicine. Natural healing and alternative medicine has always resonated with me more.”

His most memorable moment as a chiropractor was life-changing: “The one that stands out to me is helping a patient walk again with no help after being stuck in a wheelchair for 10-plus years.”
